Program
Starting from the object - cup as a conductor, we intend to explore the aesthetic and functional possibilities of this theme, using three of the main techniques of conformation in Ceramics. The objective is to develop the look and experience of doing, from the free but led creation of volumes and their contents, appreciating the space created in the void, both by the forms as by the individual expression.

Target: 2 groups of 5 to 6 adults with or without experience in ceramics

Techniques: Primitive modeling, Rollers, Wheel of Potter

Method

The presentation and demonstration of the techniques will follow a chronological sequence in order to progressively increase complexity and stimulate the challenge. It is intended that the participants have a direct and intensive contact with the clay and the conformation techniques. In the first part, the older techniques will be approached through the simple conformation of small containers with the technique of the ball and the thumb and the technique of the rollers. In the second part, we'll cover the basic steps of working the wheel to explore the simpler possibilities of the process. Once the basic principle of each technique has been grasped, the execution of the pieces will be free and only integrated into a set of considerations about the innumerable possibilities of (un) articulation between function and aesthetics. Between techniques, a historical framework is made in order to contextualize the theme, examples are observed and discussed and curiosities are heard about the History of Humanity and the clay, the geological origin of the materials, the game between the 4 elements present and cooking and the inherent phenomena.

Material

Red clay, finishing texture, 5 to 6 potter's wheels (one per participant, wheel instruments and other support materials (containers, woods).
