HERITAGE THROUGH THE PINHOLE

This is a project from LAC’s Association that seeks to enhance – by rediscovering and reinventing the imagery of Pinhole Photography - a diverse horizon of listed buildings and recognized historical, architectural and cultural importance, as well as to develop and preserve this fundamental photography technique which stands out in the creative panorama of contemporary photography given conceptual and formal qualities, impossible to attain otherwise.

Within the development of large scale Pinhole Photography the objective is to highlight identity elements and those bearing collective memories, all of which making part of the entire built heritage. Following this perspective it’s the project’s intention to preserve the heritage, contribute to territorial qualification and public training through artistic creation.

This project follows a logical sequence of various training, artistic creation and research activities developed by LAC in the Pinhole Photography field. Since 2009 large images of monuments in Lagos were made as a result of adapting a closed box van to a mobile camera, creating monochrome images about 3,15m long and 1,10m in height.

Pinhole Photography is a technique in which the taking photo is made without the use of lenses, in other words, is where the light enters in a dark room through a small hole.
